VISIT #1: GILLETTE
Gillette Farms was formed in 1958 by Dr. Gilles Patenaude, and is now managed by his four sons: Marc, Louis,
Vincent, and Mathieu. 110 animals are milked in a tie-stall operation which was built in 1995 after a
devastating fire that destroyed all facilities. The other 370 animals are milked in a free-stall Double-12
parlour which was built in 1996. Gillette has bred many bulls for Artificial Insemination units such as
Triumphant, Final Cut, FBI, Windbrook, Willrock, and most recently, twin brothers Jordan and Jerrick. Shows
remain a fundamental marketing tool for the Gillette prefix, and they are proud to have produced many
All-Canadian nominees and bred the 2000 Holstein Canada Cow of the Year- Gillette Blackstar Christiane
(VG-88-16*). This Master Breeder herd, awarded in 2005, produces an average of 500 embryos per year with
60% implanted and 40% sold both domestically and internationally.
VISIT #2: OTTAWA CITY TOUR
The Capital-at-a-Glance tour provides a comprehensive city tour of Ottawa within two hours. Tour highlights
include political landmarks in Canadian history such as Parliament Hill, Confederation Square, Bank of Canada,
and the Supreme Court of Canada. Glance at the Rideau Canal which is famous in both the summer and winter
months. See the many embassies and residences of ambassadors; the Residence of the Prime Minister, Residence
of the Governor General, and Notre-Dame Cathedral. Drive by the Byward Market, a four square block of unique
